The Diary of a
Young Girl
Book Publishing
This was a tough one: Coming up with a fresh new design for one of the most well-read and beloved books of the 20th Century; but be respectful of the gravity of the story. It was a fine line to walk.
In doing research, I discovered pictures of children from Auschwitz—chilling mugshots of young boys and girls the Nazis were interning there. And I thought...this is what happened to Anne. In that thought, was the germ of the idea for this cover. Keeping the font simple, the grid system plain, was all to try to keep the message clear, and pay tribute to the story inside.
